In the Feb. 17 edition of the Burbank Leader, city reporter Chad Garland did a fine job on updating the readers on the new and revised annual “Burbank on Parade.” The BOP Committee has expanded the parade, scheduled for April 23, with the idea of including something for all families of Burbank.

As a member of the city’s Civic Pride Committee, I serve as a liaison to the BOP Committee. I have thoroughly enjoyed attending the monthly, and now bi-monthly meetings.

Headed up by President Carey Briggs, who is focused and really bright, and the iconic Joanne Lento Miller, who contributes mightily in everything she does, the parade is in very good hands. They have surrounded themselves with some of the brightest folks in Burbank.

This year’s theme is “Our Heroes.” Olive Avenue will again be closed, and a pancake breakfast and run/walk event will start at 7:30 a.m., followed by a family Bike Ride (CicLaBurbank) at 8:30 a.m. A festival is planned for 2 to 4 p.m.

Olive Avenue will remain closed and a car show, including food trucks and entertainment, will run until 4 p.m. This day of celebration will feature all the cool things about our city.

This is the 35th year of Burbank on Parade. I urge you get up early on April 23, and head for Olive Avenue. You will have a great time, and you’ll run into friends and neighbors. The Civic Pride Committee is talking about sponsoring a big chili cook-off for the parade next year.

It’s always good to see the hard work of a citizens committee like BOP pay off in a big way.

Can’t wait!
