Sports roundup: Bell-Jeff girls’ basketball continues league success

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Bellarmine-Jefferson 48, St. Pius-Matthias 26: The Guards remained undefeated and in first place in the Santa Fe League with the victory Tuesday evening on the road

Bell-Jeff improved to 8-10, 5-0 in league. The Guards, who enjoyed a 26-13 lead at halftime, received 13 points each from Cosette Balmy and Claire Borot.

Burbank 64, Muir 22: The Bulldogs improved to 16-6, 6-2 in the Pacific League with a victory Tuesday at Muir.

Providence 68, Archer 34: Fabi Jimenez poured in 19 points to pace the host Pioneers to a Liberty League win Tuesday evening.

Jasmine Ramirez added 13 points and Ariel Gordillo chipped in with nine for first-place Providence (14-7, 5-0 in league).

Providence 43, Mary Star of the Sea 19: The Pioneers jumped out to a 14-3 lead after one quarter and led, 26-12, at the half in Saturday’s win in the Brethren Christian Showcase at Liberty Christian High.

Jasmine Ramirez had 19 points, six rebounds and five steals and was named the player of the game. Teammate Rachael Camonayan added nine points.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Burbank 61, Muir 55: The Bulldogs earned the Pacific League victory Tuesday evening against the host Mustangs.

Mike Woods had 17 points and four blocks and Ellie Hano added 11 points for Burbank (15-7, 5-3 in league).

Providence 55, Pacifica Christian 46: The Pioneers earned the nonleague victory against the host Seawolves on Tuesday evening.

Providence (8-13) received 22 points from Brian Cabagnot, 13 points and 11 rebounds from David Grigoryan and 11 points and six assists from Jason Batungbacal.

Hesperia Christian 44, Providence 43: The Pioneers (7-13) fell Saturday in the Brethren Christian Showcase at Liberty Christian High.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 2, Crescenta Valley 2: The Indians couldn’t hold on to a two-goal lead in tying the Pacific League contest Tuesday at Memorial Field.

Diego Galaviz and William Rosales scored goals in the first half for Burroughs (10-5-2, 6-2-1 in league), which led, 2-0, at the half.

Burbank 3, Muir 2: The Bulldogs improved to 6-4-1 and 5-3-1 with a win Tuesday in a Pacific League match on the road.

Providence 4, Pacifica Christian 1: The Pioneers earned their first win in the Independence League Tuesday at Occidental College.

Paul Swaine and Drake Sahm had two goals each for Providence (4-8, 1-0 in league).

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 3, Crescenta Valley 1: Mireya Gonzalez had a hat trick in leading the Indians to a Pacific League win Tuesday against the first-place Falcons at Crescenta Valley.

Camila Franco, Alondra Solos and Maddie Riggs assisted on the goals for Burroughs (8-4, 5-4), which was tied with the Falcons at the half, 1-1.

The Indians received fine play from seniors Delila Varela, Daisy Casteneda and Jasmine Delgado.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Crescenta Valley 21, Burbank 2: The Bulldogs (7-11, 0-4 in league) couldn’t stay with the Falcons in the loss Tuesday on the road.
