GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Burroughs 66, Hoover 25: The victory Friday at home gave the Indians a share of their fourth straight Pacific League championship.

Burroughs (19-7, 12-0 in league) can win the title outright with a victory Tuesday at Glendale.

“Actually, none of us even talked about that we won a share of the title,” said Burroughs Coach Vicky Oganyan, whose squad has won 40 straight league games. “As far as we are concerned, we have two games left and we want to win those, so I don’t think there is any celebrating by any of us just yet.”

The Indians were led by Jordan Meltzer, who poured in 29 points. Abby Ibarra added 14 points and six steals and Kamryn Cardenez had six points and nine rebounds.

“We have improved as a team, especially offensively,” Oganyan said. “Defensively we are still playing hard and whenever we have those lapses that we struggle on offense, our defense has been keeping us in games.”

The Indians’ last league loss came at the hands of rival Burbank on Feb. 7, 2013.
