Sports Roundup: Fitzgerald’s five goals highlight Providence girls’ soccer’s league title clincher

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Providence 8, Glendale Adventist Academy 1: With a dominant win Tuesday at Ferraro Field, the Pioneers won the Independence League title outright, led by a huge five-goal game from Kelly Fitzgerald.

Mica Haban, Kaellin Ayap and Kristen Ayap also had goals for the Pioneers (5-3, 5-0 in league), who won the league title in the first season under coach Emma Johnson.

Providence 2, Pilibos 0: Mica Haban scored both goals for the Pioneers on Monday afternoon in an Independence League victory at Occidental College.

Burbank 12, Muir 0: The Bulldogs turned in the usual lopsided win against Muir to improve to 6-9-2, 6-5-2 in the Pacific League. With the win, Burbank clinched fourth place in the Pacific League.

Crescenta Valley 4, Burroughs 1: The Indians lost Tuesday afternoon at home to fall to 12-8-1, 8-5 in the Pacific League.

Tatiana Mosdale scored for the Indians on an assist from Mireya Gonzalez.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Canoga Park Armenian General Benevolent Union 1, Providence 0: The Pioneers were dealt their first Independence League defeat of the season on Tuesday at Ferraro Field.

Providence dropped to 5-5, 4-1 in the league.

Muir 1, Burbank 0: The Bulldogs allowed a late goal Tuesday afternoon and fell to 0-12-5, 0-10-3 in the Pacific League.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Bellarmine-Jefferson 68, St. Bernard 26: The Guards continued storming to a Santa Fe League championship with a victory Tuesday evening at home.

The win gave the Guards (20-3, 9-0 in league), ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division V-A, a share of the league crown. Bell-Jeff can win the title outright Thursday against host La Salle (19-9, 8-1).

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 71, Santa Monica Pacifica Christian 50: The host Pioneers rolled to an Independence League win Tuesday in their regular season finale.

Providence (18-8, 10-0 in league), which had already secured the league championship, received 11 points from Joe Whelan, 10 from AJ Bautista and eight from Matthew Meza.

Crescenta Valley 64, Burroughs 56: Tristen Hull had a huge game with 23 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks, four assists and three steals, but it wasn’t enough for an Indians’ victory as they fell Tuesday on the road to drop to 13-12, 5-8 in the Pacific League.

Stefon Foster added 12 points for Burroughs.

Muir 56, Burbank 49: The Bulldogs fell to 18-8, 7-6 in the Pacific League with the loss Tuesday night at home.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Pasadena 8, Burbank 7 (overtime): The Bulldogs fell Tuesday afternoon in a consolation game of the Pacific League Tournament.

Lexi Lyneis had three goals for Burbank (1-6 in league).
