Sports roundup: Burroughs tennis sweeps Glendale

Burroughs 14, Glendale 4: The Indians completed a season sweep of the Nitros with a Pacific League victory Tuesday afternoon at home.

Burroughs (7-7, 6-6 in league) was paced by freshman singles player Chloe Bookmyer, who swept her three sets by 6-0 scores. Also earning a sweep was singles player Jackie Samsell, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, as well as the doubles team of Jenny Drechsler and Sandy LeMay, 6-0, 6-2, 6-3.

Arcadia 13, Burbank 5: The Bulldogs fell Tuesday afternoon to the Pacific League-champion Apaches.

Burbank (12-2, 9-2 in league) is in second place in league.

BOYS WATER POLO

Burbank 18, Pasadena 12: The Bulldogs earned their first Pacific League win of the season Tuesday afternoon on the road.

Burbank is 9-11, 1-3 in league.

Burroughs 16, Glendale 8: Marko Vucetic scored five goals to pace the host Indians to a Pacific League victory Monday afternoon.

Gevo Hagopian and Aram Nordanya added three goals each and JJ Ambartsumyan tallied two for Burroughs, which is ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division V.

The Indians jumped out to a 10-3 lead at the half.

The match was a makeup from Thursday when the contest was postponed because of a lack of officials.

Burroughs in Los Altos Tournament: The Indians defeated Malibu, 12-6, Saturday to capture the tournament championship.

The Indians enjoyed a 10-3 lead after three quarters.

David Arakelyan paced Burroughs with seven goals, while teammate Marko Vucetic added three and Aram Nordanyan and JJ Ambartsumyan tallied one apiece.

Burroughs also earned tournament wins against Temple City, 10-7, El Dorado, 17-7, and Oxnard Pacifica, 19-0.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Pasadena d. Burbank, 25-27, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21: The Bulldogs fell to 16-8-3, 7-5 in the Pacific League with the loss Tuesday afternoon at home.

Burbank in Sylmar Invtational: The Bulldogs went 3-1-2 Saturday at Sylmar High.

Burbank defeated Birmingham, 25-13, 25-13, Los Angeles Marshall, 25-14, 25-13, and Cleveland, 25-14, lost to El Camino Real, 25-17, and tied Narbonne, 25-19, 23-25, and Sun Valley Poly, 23-25, 25-1.

Mary Star of the Sea d. Bellarmine-Jefferson, 25-7, 25-9, 25-10: The Guards dropped to 1-12-1, 0-8 in the Santa Fe League with a loss Tuesday evening at home.
