Sports roundup: Providence volleyball finishes third in league

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

St. Genevieve d. Providence, 17-25, 20-25, 25-20, 21-25: Providence fell Tuesday in a nonleague match. The Pioneers dropped to 17-7.

Providence d. Glendale Adventist Academy, 25-16, 25-21, 25-23: The Pioneers avenged an earlier Liberty League loss this season to the Cougars Monday evening at home.

With the win, Providence (3-5 in league) finished tied for third with Glendale Adventist (3-5 in league), . Following the contest, a coin flip took place to determine the league’s third-place finisher and the final guaranteed CIF Southern Section playoff spot. The Pioneers won the flip.

Talia Patterson paced the Pioneers with 15 kills and 12 digs. Teammate Ava Midkiff had 12 kills and seven blocks, Giselle Camonayan had 19 digs, Irish Degorio had 14 digs and Alyssa Camacho had 30 assists.

Providence d. Pacifica Christian, 25-19, 25-24, 25-15: Ava Midkiff had 19 kills and three blocks to lead the Pioneers to a Liberty League victory Saturday.

Talia Patterson added seven kills and eight digs, Giselle Camonayan had digs and Alyssa Camacho contributed seven digs and 33 assists.

Burroughs in Redondo Tournament: The Indians went 1-4 in the competitive event Friday and Saturday at Redondo Union High.

Burroughs lost to Oaks Christian, 25-22, 25-19, Tehachapi, 25-23, 25-22, Palos Verdes, 25-20, 22-25, 15-11, and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 25-14, 25-23, and defeated Rio Mesa, 25-18 25-16.
