Sports roundup: Providence boys’ basketball rolls to tournament victory

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 51, Nogales 41: The Pioneers won their second straight game in the South Pasadena Tournament on Thursday.

AJ Bautista had 13 points, David Grigoryan added 12 and Joe Whelan contributed 10 for Providence (3-3).

Burroughs 67, Simi Valley 59: The Indians improved to 5-1 with the win Thursday evening in the Simi Valley Tournament.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 42, Providence 24: The Pioneers couldn’t earn the victory Thursday evening in the Pasadena Poly Tournament.

Ariel Gordillo had six points and eight rebounds and Christy Hoffman contributed nine rebounds for Providence (3-3).

Ayala 58, Burbank 52: The Bulldogs dropped their third straight game in pool play of the Burroughs Tournament Thursday afternoon.

Trailing at the half, 26-22, Burbank (5-3) was outscored in the third quarter, 23-11, but won the fourth, 19-9.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Buckley 7, Providence 2: The Pioneers fell to 0-3 with the nonleague loss Thursday afternoon on the road.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Mayfield 11, Burbank 3: The Bulldogs (1-6) lost for a second time Thursday in pool play of the Burbank Tournament. They opened with a 4-3 loss to Calabasas.
