Sports Roundup: Providence’s Guardado, Bell-Jeff’s Montijo qualify for CIF cross-country finals

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Providence in CIF Southern Section Division V preliminaries: Sophomore Carissa Guardado punched her ticket to the CIF Southern Section finals with a fifth-place run in her preliminary heat on Saturday at Riverside Cross-Country Course.

The Liberty League champion finished in 19 minutes 24 seconds. Teammate Sandra Vargas was 69th in 22:29.3.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Bellarmine-Jefferson, Providence in CIF Southern Section Division V preliminaries: Bell-Jeff’s Nick Montijo ran to a top-10 finish and qualification to the CIF Southern Section finals the following week on Saturday at the Riverside Cross-Country Course.

Montijo finished ninth in his heat in 16 minutes 17.3 seconds to qualify as an individual.

Bell-Jeff’s Sebastian Ceja-Solis was 48th in 17:46.2.

Providence’s Ryan Donnelly, running in another heat, was 31st in 17:51.9.
