Pullmans Gym’s Washington set for ring return

Former world title challenger Gerald Washington will make his return to the boxing ring for the first time since his title bid to take on Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller on July 29 in a 10-round bout at the Barclays Center in New York City.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to personally welcome Big Baby Miller to big-time boxing,” Washington, 35, stated in a press release. “Big Baby Miller has done a lot of talking, I’ll be looking to stop that talking from the moment the bell to start the fight rings.”

The 6-foot-6 Washington (18-1-1, 12 knockouts), turned to pro boxing in 2012 and trains out of Burbank’s Pullmans Gym. He played football at USC and was part of the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks practice squads before taking up boxing.

Washington is fighting for the first time since his World Boxing Council title loss to Deontay Wilder via technical knockout in February.

The 6-foot-4, 285-pound undefeated Miller (18-0-1, 16 KOs) has stopped seven straight opponents inside the distance. Following a layoff due to contractual disputes, the 28-year-old former professional kickboxer will take a step up in opposition when he faces Washington.

Highlights of Miller vs. Washington will air at 6 p.m. as part of a Showtime Championship Boxing doubleheader headlined by Adrien Broner and Mikey Garcia.
