Sports Roundup: Burbank volleyball clinches third place in league

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burbank d. Arcadia, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23: The victory Thursday afternoon clinched third place in the Pacific League for the Bulldogs.

Burbank (18-10, 6-3 in league) finishes the regular season Tuesday at rival Burroughs.

Cantwell Sacred Heart d. Bellarmine-Jefferson, 25-7, 25-9, 25-18: The Guards slipped to 1-4 in the Santa Fe League with the loss Thursday evening at home.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Burbank 10, Burroughs 8: The Bulldogs finished third in the Pacific League with the win Thursday afternoon on the road.

“I though that we did pretty good in league this season,” said Burbank Coach Loi Phan, whose squad finished behind champion Arcadia and runner-up Crescenta Valley. “We had some close ones the second time we played CV, but the guys gave it their best.”

Burbank (9-5, 8-4 in league) swept Burroughs (1-11 in league) in two contests this season.

SOFTBALL

Providence 17, Yeshiva 0 (five innings): Pitcher Francesca Maravilla struck out 13 and didn’t surrender a hit in the Pioneers’ win Thursday afternoon at Olive Park.

Eden Dawit was three for four and Carla Galvez was two for four for Providence (6-5, 3-1 in league).

Burbank 21, Pasadena 4 (five innings): The Bulldogs improved to 8-13, 6-4 in the Pacific League with the victory Thursday afternoon at McCambridge Park.

BASEBALL

Providence 19, de Toledo 18: The Pioneers came out on top of the Liberty League slugfest Thursday evening at Foy Park.

Providence is 6-10, 3-1 in league.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Providence at Liberty League Meet: The Pioneers picked up a victory Tuesday afternoon at Birmingham High.

Providence finished with 75 points and outlasted seconplace Pacifica Christian (61).

Juniors led the way for the Pioneers, as Ryan Donnelly won the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 00.74 seconds and took second in the 3,200 in 11:29.10.

Abram Bautista won the 100-meter dash in 12.15 and was second in the 200 in 24.40

Kirk Helling won the 800 in 2:12.79, while senior Giancarlo Deligio captured the high jump in 5 feet, 8 inches.

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Providence at Liberty League Meet: The Pioneers finished third in league action Tuesday afternoon at Birmingham High.

Providence tallied 33 points, which trailed winner Archer (72) and runner-up Pacifica Christian (71).

Lauren Gregoria finished second in the 3,200 in 16:12.02, while the Providence 400-meter relay squad of Kristen Ayap, Rose Escolano, Milena Moordian and Maria Govdyak took second in 55.36.
