Sports Roundup: First-place Burbank volleyball stays unbeaten

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burbank d. Glendale, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-11: The Bulldogs remained in first place in the Pacific League and undefeated on the season with the win Thursday afternoon at home.

Burbank is 11-1, 5-0 in league.

Burroughs d. Pasadena, 25-23, 26-24, 25-19: Led by 15 kills from Marin Grote, the Indians earned the Pacific League win Thursday afternoon at home.

Juliana Van Loo added 13 kills for Burroughs (8-2, 4-1 in league).

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy d. Bellarmine-Jefferson, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-23: The Guards fell in a Santa Fe League match Thursday evening on the road.

Bell-Jeff is 1-4, 0-2 in league.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Burroughs 15, Hoover 3: The Indians won all nine singles sets in the Pacific League victory Thursday at home.

With Hoover defaulting three sets at No. 3 singles, Indians Jackie Samsell, Sandy LeMay and Chloe Bookmyer won two sets each by 6-0 scores. In doubles, Savannah Dorris and Leah Prystupa swept, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Burbank 16, St. Francis 9: Brandon Wilson scored six goals and had four assists to lead the Bulldogs to a nonleague win Thursday afternoon at home.

Varuzhan Bilbulya added four goals and four assists and Artush Gasparyan had a goal and six assists for Burbank (5-1).

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Providence in Liberty League Meet No. 1: Pioneer Carissa Guardado ran to a first-place finish in 17 minutes, 30 seconds on the 2.6-mile Carson Park course Tuesday afternoon.

She was followed by Sandra Vargas (11th; 19:43) and Stella Murphy (39th; 23:33).

Providence placed fifth in the race with 10 points. Pacifica Christian (18) finished first.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Providence in Liberty League Meet No. 1: Pioneer Ryan Donnelly placed second in 14 minutes, 39 seconds on the 2.6-mile Carson Park course Tuesday afternoon.

He was followed by Brian Chan (24th; 16:20) and Conrad Davis (29th; 16:48).

Holy Martyrs placed first with 16 points, while Providence had eight and took fifth.
