GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Nordhoff d. Providence, 26-24, 28-26, 19-25, 25-20: A second straight deep playoff run was not in the cards for Providence this postseason.

The visiting fourth-seeded Pioneers saw their season end via a defeat to Tri-Valley League fourth-place finisher Nordoff in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division VIII playoffs Thursday evening.

With the defeat, Providence ended its season with a 14-8 record after tying for second in the Liberty League.

“I thought it was a pretty even match,” Providence coach James Jimenez said. “In the first game, we were up, 24-21, and they just came back on us. We had other leads and they came back on us. It was that type of match.”

Senior outside hitter Talia Patterson led the Pioneers with 22 kills and 16 digs in her final match, while senior middle hitter Sarah Cox added 11 kills and six blocks.

Senior outside Giselle Camonayan contributed five kills and 16 digs, junior setter Justine Nuñez chipped in 35 assists and 12 digs and sophomore libero Isabella Mahan finished with 31 digs.
