Sports Roundup: Providence soccer teams open with lopsided wins

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Providence 7, St. Monica Academy 1: The Pioneers rolled to a nonleague victory Tuesday afternoon at Occidental College in their season-opening match.

Claire Davis led Providence with three goals, while Milena Mooradian added two and Kristen Ayap and Orla Dempsy had one apiece. GiGi Loizzo and Noelle Aladegem had one save each in goal for the Pioneers.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Providence 6, St. Ribet Academy 0: Paul Swaine scored three goals to power the Pioneers to a nonleague win Tuesday evening at Occidental College to open their season.

Elias Ferguson added a goal and two assists and Greg Simitian and Patrick Avedikian scored goals for Providence. In goal, Chris Pita-Del Valle recorded the shutout.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Burbank 16, La Salle 3: The Bulldogs opened their season Monday afternoon with a nonleague victory on the road at Arcadia County Park.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Salesian 74, Burroughs 66: The Indians fell in the West Covina Tournament Monday evening to open their season.

St. Monica Academy 64, Lycee International of Los Angeles 38: The Lions tipped off their season Monday evening with a nonleague loss at New Revelation Baptist Church.
