BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 65, Canoga Park Armenian General Benevolent Union 20: The Pioneers rolled to a win in their season opener at home in the opening round of pool play of the 29th annual Paul Sutton Tip-Off Classic.

Bryce Whitaker had 16 points and Tevan Khudatyan added 14 for Providence.

Valencia Valencia 56, Burroughs 44: The Indians (2-2) fell Wednesday evening on the road in the opening round of the West Ranch/Valencia Duel Of The Desert Tournament.

Burbank 70, Bellarmine-Jefferson 54: The Bulldogs won the battle of the city teams Wednesday evening in pool play of the Burbank Bulldog Tournament at Burbank High.

Burbank improved to 2-0, while Bell-Jeff slipped to 0-4.

Le Lycee 55, Lycee International of Los Angeles 51: The Lions (0-2) fell Wednesday afternoon in a nonleague contest at Olive Recreation Center.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Buckley 1, Providence 1: The Pioneers played to a nonleague home tie at Occidental College on Wednesday afternoon.

Celia Renteria scored Providence’s goal off an assist from Celia Renteria. Goalie GiGi Loizzo finished with five saves.

The Pioneers are 1-0-1

Providence 0, Pasadena Poly 0: The Pioneers played to a nonleague stalemate Wednesday at Occidental College.

Providence is 2-0-1.

Burbank 1, San Marino 0: The Bulldogs, who didn’t win a match during the 2016-17 season, notched a victory Wednesday in their first match of the season in a nonleague contest on the road.
