Sports Roundup: Burroughs boys’ soccer downs Burbank, takes second
BOYS’ SOCCER
Burroughs 4, Burbank 3: The Indians prevailed in their rivalry matchup at Memorial Field on Thursday, clinching second place in the Pacific League in the process.
Burroughs improved to 15-8-1, 9-4-1 in league heading into the playoffs.
The Bulldogs finished the season at 5-9-4, 4-8-2 in league for sixth place.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Burbank 8, Pasadena 6: The Bulldogs got four goals from Sune Aghakian and three from Lexi Lyneis to win the fifth-place match of the Pacific League Tournament at Arcadia High on Thursday.
Burbank finished 7-13, 2-5 in league.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Golden Valley 54, Providence 46: Melissa Zozulenko finished with 22 points and seven rebounds and Sarah Cox added eight points and eight rebounds Wednesday for the visiting Pioneers (19-8) in a nonleague contest on the road.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Providence 60, Golden Valley 52: The Pioneers earned a nonleague win Wednesday evening on the road in their regular-season finale.
Providence improved to 18-9.
St. Genevieve 83, Bellarmine-Jefferson 39: The Guards played their final game in program history on Wednesday as the school is scheduled to close at the end of the 2017-18 school year.
Bell-Jeff went 0-16, 0-10 in the Camino Real League.
