Sports Roundup: Indians baseball drops battle of Burroughs

BASEBALL

Ridgecrest Burroughs 8, Burbank Burroughs 6: A five-run fourth inning wasn’t enough for the Indians to hold off the Burros Thursday in a Quartz Hill Tournament game.

Brian Garcia had a double, walk, run, run batted in and stolen base for the Indians (4-4). Devan Esquivel also had a run and an RBI as the Indians were held to five hits.

Burroughs 11, Hoover 0 (five innings): In a battle of Pacific League foes, the Indians defeated the visiting Tornadoes on Wednesday afternoon in a Quartz Hill Tournament game.

Matthew Diaz was two for two with a walk, a triple, two runs batted in and one run scored, Julian Jaraillo was two for two with two walks and two runs scored, Andres Salazar was two for three with a double and three RBI and Revin Diego knocked in two runs for Burroughs.

Pitcher Joe Metcalf went four innimngs, allowing three hits, striking out two and walking one.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Crescenta Valley 14, Burroughs 4: Host Burroughs dropped a Pacific League match Thursday. The Indians dipped to 3-4, 3-2 in league.

Burroughs 9, Gendale 9 (Indians win on games, 77-69): Singles player Kendric Marcy swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, to pace the Indians to a Pacific League victory Wednesday afternoon on the road.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Providence d. Milken Community, 25-13, 25-14, 24-26, 25-19: Zack Pikhart collected 27 kills and Josh Mayor had four aces Thursday to lead the host Pioneers.

St. John Bosco d. Burroughs, 25-18, 22-25, 28-30, 25-17, 16-14: The Indians (5-5) lost a hard-fought nonleague match Tuesday evening at home.

SOFTBALL

Western Christian 9, Providence 1: The Pioneers fell Wednesday afternoon on the road in a Webb Tournament game.

Madison Gibson and Ava Yood-Howard had hits for Providence (1-2).

BOYS’ GOLF

Burroughs, Burbank in Pacific League match. The Indians and Bulldogs finished second and fourth, respectively, on Thursday at Santa Anita Golf Course in Arcadia.

The Indians finished with a 4-1 and the Bulldogs got a 465.

Burroughs received a three-over-par 74 from Trey Sanchez and a 76 from Kodiak Hernandez. Burbank got a 76 from JJ Nakao.

Providence 264, Santa Monica Pacifica Christian 327: The Pioneers began Liberty League action Thursday with a home win at De Bell Golf Course.
