Sports Roundup: Burbank boys’ soccer gets long-awaited league win

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burbank 4, Pasadena 2: Burbank picked up its first Pacific League win since the 2015-16 season with a victory on the road Thursday afternoon in its league opener.

Burbank (2-1), which didn’t win a match last season, received two goals and an assist from Artyon Ginosyan and two goals from Andrew Senane.

“This was a big win,” Burbank coach Loi Phan said. “We haven’t beaten them in awhile because they have had some good teams the last few years.”

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 84, Venice Amino Leadership 29: The Pioneers improved to 5-1 with the win Thursday in the Pasadena Poly Tournament.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 59, Executive Prep 14: Melissa Zozulenko had 19 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists to pace the Pioneers to a win Thursday evening in the Pasadena Poly Tournament.

Francesca Maravilla added 13 points and five steals and Sarah Cox had 10 points and five rebounds for Providence (5-1).

Burbank 60, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 33: The Bulldogs surged to a win Wednesday afternoon in the consolation bracket of the Burroughs Magnolia Park Optimist Tournament at Burroughs High.

The Bulldogs are 2-5.

Burroughs 69, Sun Valley Poly 55: Faith Boulanger had 27 points and nine rebounds Wednesday evening to pace the Indians to a win in the Silver Division bracket of the Burroughs Magnolia Park Optimist Tournament.

Marin Grote added 12 points and 18 rebounds, Jill Kukawski had 11 points, five assists and five steals and Dyani Del Castillo had eight points and six rebounds for Burroughs (3-0).
