The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level.

John White (Burbank High, 2013) Redlands baseball junior: White was flat out brilliant out of the bullpen for the Bulldogs this past season.

A wonderful season concluded with White garnering his first American Baseball Coaches Assn. NCAA Division III West All-Region third-team honor.

Across 20 appearances and 32 1/3 innings, White allowed just six earned runs.

For the season, one in which Redlands went 25-16, 16-11 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, White went 4-2 with three saves. He posted a 1.67 earned-run average with 44 strikeouts to 14 walks.

White’s final appearance of the season was his longest and the last game of the year for the Bulldogs. He threw four innings in a 6-5 loss to Occidental, allowing two runs for the only time in the season with four hits allowed along with two walks and six strikeouts. Previous to that appearance, White had record six consecutive appearances without relinquishing a run.

Christopher Peres (Burroughs High, 2015) La Verne baseball freshman: It’s arduous to fathom a much better debut season than Peres put together for the Leopards.

Peres posted a .379 batting average, which was 12th in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and tops on the La Verne roster. His .460 on-base percentage was 11th in the SCIAC.

Elsewhere along his statline, Peres had 55 hits and 32 runs, which were also team-highs. He added eight extra-base hits, 29 runs batted in and four stolen bases.

Peres began the season with a nine-game hitting streak and takes a three-game hitting streak into next season, as he went five for 16 over his last three games with four runs and two RBI.

La Verne went 18-21, 11-17 in SCIAC.

Akira Abderrahman (Burroughs High, 2013) Lewis and Clark baseball junior: It was far and away Abderrahman’s best season in his time with the Pioneers.

He set career highs in nearly every offensive statistic.

Abderrahman played in 33 of his team’s 40 games during a 12-28 season.

The starting outfielder hit .290 (27 for 93) with 12 runs, 13 runs batted in, seven extra-base hits, 10 walks and a .371 on-base percentage.

Abderrahman connected for one home run on the season, his first in college play, which came on March 19 in a loss to Willamette.

Tyler Lewis (Burroughs High, 2015) Whitman baseball freshman: Lewis inserted himself into the starting lineup often in his first collegiate season.

Playing in 21 of 38 games, Lewis earned 15 starts. He hit .236 (13 for 55) with five runs, four runs batted in and three stolen bases in three attempts.

Whitman won its finale on April 17 against Pacific (Ore.), 6-4. A day prior, Lewis played in his final game of the season in a 9-2 loss to Pacific. Lewis went two for three. It was his third two-hit outing of the season.
