Sports Roundup: Burbank baseball begins Babe Herman tourney with ‘W’

BASEBALL

Burbank 7, Rialto 3: The Bulldogs began the Babe Herman Tournament on Saturday night with a victory to improved to 4-3 on the season.

Burroughs 6, Cerritos 3: The Indians took an early lead and earned the win Friday in the Rancho Cucamonga Cougar Classic Tournament game at home.

Burroughs (4-5) scored two runs in the first inning and single runs in the second and third to take a 4-2 advantage after three innings. The Indians, who had 11 hits, tacked on two runs in the fifth inning.

Justin Palafox was two for three with one run batted in, Nicco Chuidian was two for three with a double and Ricky Perez, Steven Gonzalez and Brandon Martinez drove in runs for Burroughs.

SOFTBALL

Burbank in High Desert Classic: The Bulldogs went 1-3 in the tournament Friday and Saturday at Lancaster City Park.

On Friday, Burbank (1-7) suffered losses against Hart (12-1) and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (6-3). On Saturday, the Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season against Pacific League foe Crescenta Valley (5-4) and lost to Canyon Country Canyon (10-3).
