Burbank 2, L.A. Poly 1: The host Bulldogs posted a nonleague victory Thursday, their first of the season to improve to 1-2.

Branden Phillips had a game-winning hit for Burbank in the seventh inning. Pitcher Matt Lungaro earned the win.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burroughs d. Lakweood, 25-13, 25-13, 25-18: The Indians opened their season Wednesday with a nonleague victory at home.

Cole Kaitz and Diego Rosal had seven kills apiece, while Jarret Malone added six. Levi Benitez had 19 assists and Skyler Bercini had 10 digs.

St. Genevieve d. Providence, 25-7, 25-11, 25-18: The Pioneers dropped their season opener on Wednesday at home.
