Sports roundup: Burbank tennis falls to Arcadia in battle for first place

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Arcadia 14, Burbank 4: With both teams coming in undefeated in the Pacific League, the Bulldogs fell in the first-place battle Thursday afternoon at home.

The Apaches (5-0 in league) are the defending league and CIF Southern Section Division II champions.

Burbank dropped to 4-1 in league.

Burroughs 14, Glendale 4: The Indians rolled to victory Thursday against the host Nitros in a Pacific League contest.

Burroughs (3-2 in league) received sweeps from singles player Savannah Dorris, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3, and the doubles team of Jennifer Drechsler and Sandy Le May, 6-0, 6-2, 6-0.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burbank d. Pasadena, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21: The Bulldogs earned the Pacific League victory Thursday afternoon on the road.

Burbank improved to 10-3-1, 4-1 in league.

Milken Community d. Providence, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-18: Providence fell Thursday in a Liberty League match.

The Pioneers (13-2, 0-2 in league) received 10 kills and three blocks from Ava Midkiff, seven kills, 19 digs and four aces from Giselle Camonayan, 20 digs from Irish Degorio and 16 digs from Nicole St. Denis.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Burbank 34, Blair 8: The Bulldogs improved to 3-2 with the nonleague victory Thursday on the road.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Providence in Liberty League meet: Carissa Guardado placed second in 18 minutes, 3 seconds over the 2.6-mile course Tuesday at Johnny Carson Park.

Carly Gatto of Oakwood won the race in 17:57.

For Providence, Sarah Storbakken was 47th in 24:27, Emmi Avila was 50th in 26:15, Lauren Grigorio was 53rd in 26:34 and Ashley Breakman was 66th in 35:23

In the team results, Pacifica Christian won the meet with 16 points, while the Pioneers were fifth with eight.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Providence in Liberty League meet: Brian Chan was the Pioneers’ highest finisher Tuesday on the 2.6-mile Johnny Carson Park course, placing 22nd in 15 minutes, 56 seconds.

He was followed by Conrad Davis (25th, 17:07), Gabriel Serenil (31st, 17:46), Brian Markey (48th, 20:48) and Joel Cruz (50th, 20:58).

Pacifica Christian won event with 16 points, while Providence was eighth with two points.
