Sports Roundup: Burroughs baseball earns first win of season
BASEBALL
Burroughs 7, Malibu 6: Riley Hooper had a big day to lead the Indians to their first win of the season Tuesday afternoon in an Easton Tournament game at home.
Hooper was three for four with a double, triple, two runs scored and four runs batted in. Brandon Martinez was two for four with one RBI and Matthew Diaz drove in a run for the Indians (1-1).
Burroughs pushed across the winning run in the fifth inning.
Calabasas 8, Burbank 6: The Bulldogs came up short Tuesday in an Easton Tournament game on the road.
Burbank is 0-2.
SOFTBALL
Burbank in Hart Tournament: The Bulldogs opened the season Saturday with losses to Chaminade (3-2) and Camarillo (12-0).
Against Chaminade, Anysia Gonzalez was two for three with a run scored and Alex Davis had a hit, a run batted in and a run scored.
Against Camarillo, Gonzalez, Macie Jensen and Emily Monterrey had hits.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Burbank 9, Maranatha 9 (Bulldogs win on games, 75-68): The Bulldogs pulled out the nonleague win Tuesday at home to earn their first victory of the season.
James Lee won two sets in singles for Burbank (1-1).
Burroughs 10, Hoover 8: The Indians opened Pacific League play with a win Tuesday on the road.
Burroughs is 2-0.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Burbank d. San Gabriel, 25-27, 25-21, 25-19, 25-27, 15-13: The Bulldogs survived to win the nonleague match Tuesday on the road to open their season.
TRACK AND FIELD
Burroughs in Burbank Relays: The Indians had three individual winners and won a relay Saturday at Memorial Field.
Alexander Hirsch was first in the boys’ 3,200-meters in 9 minutes, 33 seconds, Christian Valles won the boys’ pole vault with a 14-foot-3 effort and Heidi Eligio won the girls’ 3,200 in 14:44. The Burroughs group of Daniel Fendrich, Hirsch, Jeron Straker and Timothy Wells won the distance medley relay in 10:52.

Mikaela Teixeira was first in the girls’ pole vault with an 11-foot effort, Ruth Rodriguez won the girls’ discus in 87-3 and Vedavit Shetty won the boys’ triple jump with a 45-2 1/2 mark.
