Sports roundup: Burroughs, Burbank boys’ hoops advance to tourney title games

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Burbank 58, Rio Mesa 37: The Bulldogs earned a spot in the championship game of the Ventura County Tournament with a win Friday .

Burbank (7-1) will play at 7:30 Saturday against Shalhavet for the title.

Faraz Khandaker had 22 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Burroughs 70, Canoga Park 26: The Indians rolled to their third straight victory in the Simi Valley Tip Off Classic on Friday afternoon and earned a spot to the championship game.

With the win, Burroughs improved to 6-1 this season and will face Clovis West at 6 p.m. in the tournament championship game.

Pasadena Poly 54, Providence 53: AJ Bautista with scored 27 points and David Grigoryan had 16 as the Pioneers trailed 44-33 after the third quarter and came up just short of a huge comeback on Friday in the Pasadena Poly Tournament.

Providence plays San Marino for third place at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

San Marino 43, Providence 33: The Pioneers (3-4) came up short Friday afternoon in the Pasadena Poly Tournament.

Burroughs 63, Hart 41: The Indians rolled to victory Thursday evening in Gold Division pool play in the Burroughs Tournament.

Kamryn Cardenaz paced Burroughs (2-1) with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Marin Grote added 13 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks, Jocelyn Rieken had 12 points and four rebounds and Ariana Farias contributed six points and seven steals.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Pasadena 2, Burbank 0: The Bulldogs dropped their second Pacific League contest in as many contests on Friday afternoon.

Cynthia De La Cruz scored for Burbank (0-4, 0-2 in league) on an assist from Priscilla Romero.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Pasadena 2, Burbank 1: The Bulldogs fell just short of a win against the defending Pacific League champions Friday afternoon at home.

Burbank (0-4, 0-2 in league) held a 1-0 lead early in the first half.

Santa Clara 11, Providence 1: The Pioneers had a rough Friday afternoon with the nonleague loss on the road that dropped them to 1-3.
