Sports Roundup: Couch claims victory at Bellarmine-Jefferson Invitational

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Bellarmine-Jefferson at Bellarmine-Jefferson Invitational: A season after taking second at the Bellarmine-Jefferson Invitational at Griffith Park, Caitlyn Couch reigned supreme on Saturday at Griffith Park.

Couch won the Blue Varsity race in 18 minutes 32.40 seconds.

It was a comfortable win for the junior, who claimed victory by more than 30 seconds with teammate and fellow junior Valerie Zavala finishing second in 19:06.60.

Sophomore Dalila Rincan finished 18th in 21:10.20, but the Guards took eighth with 236 points as their final two scorers finished outside of the top 90.

Burbank at Billy York Invitational: Though they finished seventh, the Bulldogs enjoyed a mini victory at Saturday morning’s Billy York Invitational at the Riverside City College Cross-Country Course.

The Bulldogs took seventh with 170 points, a spot and a point ahead of Pacific League rival Crescenta Valley.

Senior Kira Bochard paced the Bulldogs by finishing 35th in 21 minutes 42.1 seconds.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Burbank at Billy York Invitational: The Bulldogs picked up some needed experience at Saturday morning’s Varsity A run at the Billy York Invitational at the Riverside City College Cross-Country Course.

The Bulldogs finished 14th in the varsity race with 76 points on the course that will host the CIF Southern Section prelims and finals.

Sophomore Nick Glover was Burbank’s top finisher and took 79th in 18:43.4.

Bellarmine-Jefferson at Bellarmine-Jefferson Invitational: Nick Montijo finished ninth on Saturday at Griffith Park in the annual meet hosted by the Guards.

Competing in the Blue Varsity race, Montijo ran to a time 16 minutes 11.80 seconds.

The Guards, who didn’t have another runner finish in the top 85, took 16th place with 432 points.
