Sports Roundup: Providence boys’ basketball continues to roll

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 51, Canoga Park AGBU 46: The Pioneers continued an undefeated run through the Independence League with a road victory Friday evening.

David Grigoryan led Providence (17-8, 9-0) with 19 points, while Bryce Whitaker added 12 points and AJ Bautista tallied 11 points.

The Pioneers already won the league crown, but can close out an unblemished run Tuesday versus Santa Monica Pacifica Christian.

Burbank 49, Arcadia 47: The Bulldogs pulled out a close Pacific League road victory Friday evening.

Burbank is now 18-7 and 7-5 in league with two games remaining in the season.

Glendale 59, Burroughs 53: The Indians dropped a Pacific League home game on Friday evening.

Burroughs is now 13-11 and 5-7 in league.

Mesrobian 61, Lycee International 59 (Overtime): The Lions dropped an International League home game on Friday afternoon.

With the setback, Lycee International dropped to 8-5 and 7-5 in league. The Lions close out the season on Wednesday against St. Monica Academy.

Bishop Amat 79, Bellarmine-Jefferson 21: The Guards were outscored by 13 points in the first quarter and never caught up in a Camino Real League road defeat Friday evening.

With the loss, Bell-Jeff is 2-18, 0-8 in league.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 33, Armenian General Benevolent Union 26: The Pioneers improved to 15-10, 7-2 in the Liberty League with a win on the road Friday.

Ariel Gordillo had seven points, eight steals and six rebounds, Giselle Camonayan added seven points and four steals and Christy Hoffman tallied six points and six rebounds for Providence.

Arcadia 39, Burbank 27: The Bulldogs fell Friday on the road in a Pacific League contest. Burbank dipped to 14-14, 5-6 in league.

Bellarmine-Jefferson 57, Mary Star of the Sea 36: The Guards rolled to their 13th straight victory with a Santa Fe League win Thursday evening at home.

Bell-Jeff (19-3, 8-0 in league), ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division V-A, remains in first place, one game ahead of La Salle (18-8, 7-1) with two games left to play.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 3, Glendale 0: Mireya Gonzalez, Alondra Solis and Abbie Riggs scored for the Indians in Friday’s Pacific League victory.

Burroughs (12-7-1, 8-4 in league) clinched a top-four spot in league.

Arcadia 6, Burbank 1: The Bulldogs lost on the road to the reigning Pacific League champions.

Burbank fell to 5-9-2, 5-5-2 in league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 2, Glendale 0: The Indians stayed in first place with the Pacific League victory Friday afternoon.

Anton Prather scored both goals for Burroughs (16-4-3, 10-2 in league), which won its fifth straight game. Goalkeeper Jordan Morgan made six saves for the shutout.

Providence 2, Yeshiva 1: The Pioneers remained in first place and undefeated in the Independence League with the win Thursday afternoon at Occidental College.

Elias Ferguson and Giancarlo Deligio scored goals for Providence (4-4, 3-0 in league).

Burbank 0, Arcadia 0: The Bulldogs tied on the road Friday, with their record now at 0-11-5, 0-9-3 in the Pacific League following their third consecutive tie.
