Sports Roundup: Providence volleyball tops Milken Community in four

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Providence d. Milken Community, 14-25, 25-13, 27-25, 29-27: Zack Pikhart finished with 17 kills and Westin Tengan contributed 33 digs Friday for the Pioneers (6-7) in a nonleague road match.

Zach Hurst and Pikhart had three aces each and Darian Hackett added six blocks for Providence.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Crescenta Valley 70, Burroughs 66 and Burroughs 104, Muir 26: Max Carrillo and Christian Valles each won two events for Burroughs during Thursday’s Pacific League tri-meet at Crescenta Valley.

Carrillo took the 100- (15.4 seconds) and 200-meter (42.3) races. Valles finish first in the pole vault (13 feet) and triple jump (39-11 3/4).

The Indians also received first-place efforts from Jagdeep Chahall in the 3,200 (10:08), Mike Demenjian in the discus (110-8) and from Alexander Hirsch, Daniel Fendrich, Sammy Duran and Carrillo in the 4x400 relay (3:32).

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Crescenta Valley 81, Burroughs 51 and Burroughs 85, Muir 10: Emily Virtue captured a pair of races at Thursday’s Pacific League meet at Crescenta Valley. Vitrue won the 800-meter (2 minutes 22 seconds) and the 1,600 (5:11).

The Indians also got first-place performances from Heidi Eligio in the 3,200 (11:51), Nadine Younan in the discus (96 feet) and Emily Switzer in the pole vault (9-0). Virtue teamed with Valerie Reveles, Dru Kim and Kate Jones to capture the 4x400 relay (4:16).
