American Airlines to close operations at Bob Hope

American Airlines, Inc.” href=”https://www.latimes.com/topic/economy-business-finance/transportation-industry/air-transportation-industry/american-airlines-inc.-PLENT000002.topic”>American Airlines, which filed for bankruptcy protection in November, is closing its operations at Bob Hope” href=”https://www.latimes.com/topic/entertainment/bob-hope-PECLB002429.topic”>Bob Hope Airport in Burbank and ending flights from Dallas-Fort Worth to New Delhi (India)” href=”https://www.latimes.com/topic/intl/india/new-delhi-%28india%29-PLGEO100100602011350.topic”>New Delhi.

In addition to closing operations at those two airports, the airline said it plans to cut 150 positions.

“Our objective is to make our company competitive and more efficient in an increasingly challenging industry,” the airline said in a statement Monday.

The flights from Bob Hope Airport will end Feb. 9. The last flight from Chicago to India will leave Feb. 28.

The airline blamed the jobs cut partly to the loss of the U.S. Postal Service domestic mail contract.
