Broken gas line prompts evacuations in Burbank neighborhood

Homes near North Clyborn Avenue and Riverside Drive were in the process of being evacuated Wednesday afternoon due to a broken residential gas line, authorities said.

Construction workers reportedly dug through the gas line in the 4400 block of North Clyborn Avenue, said Burbank Fire Capt. Peter Hendrickson.

Utility crews are on the scene to assess the extent of the damage, he added.

It was not immediately how many residences were affected by the gas line break or the evacuation.

“Now it’s a static situation, they’re just waiting for the gas company to dig in and pinch off the line,” Hendrickson said.
