A 76-year-old motorist drove his car into a medical office building in Burbank Monday after accidentally hitting the gas pedal, police said.

At about 1 p.m., the man reportedly struck a parked car while backing out of his stall, said Burbank Police Lt. Eddie Ruiz.

He subsequently put his car in drive and unintentionally stepped on the gas pedal, reportedly running over the parking stop and ramming through the building wall at 333 East Magnolia Blvd., Ruiz said.

The collision caused “substantial damage” to the building and car, Ruiz said, but an estimate was not immediately available.

No injuries were reported.

Burbank building inspectors responded to the scene and determined the building was safe for occupancy, Ruiz said.
