Challengers poised to make inroads as Burbank primary election results come in

With 17 out of 48 precincts reporting as of 11:25 p.m., the races for City Council and school board tightened, with challengers poised to make some inroads.

Challenger Robert Frutos continued to lead the six candidate field for City Council with 2,439 votes. Incumbents David Gordon and Jess Talamentes rounded out the top three, with 2,227 and 2,066 votes, respectively, city officials reported.

Incumbent Dave Golonski was holding on at No. 4 with 1,817 votes. Dave Nos and Juan Gullien Jr. rounded out the field fifth and sixth place, respectively.

“You could always wish you could do more, knock on more doors,” Guillen said. “At the very least, I hope I opened people’s eyes to the dealings that go on in our City Council that just aren’t right.”

In the Burbank Unified school board race, incumbent Larry Applebaum was holding onto his lead with 2,044 votes, while challenger Arnold Aghakhanian maintained his second place position with 1,448 votes.

“I think that the race is pretty close, closer than I thought it was going to be,” Applebaum said.

Meanwhile, Steve Ferguson, who had started out at last, had improved significantly, jumping to third place with 1,334 votes.

Charlene Tabet and David Dobson rounded at the bottom with 1,295 and 1,246 votes, respectively.

Interim City Clerk Zizette Mullins continued to hold the top spot in the reace to keep her seat, having garnered 2,077 votes. Candidate Gloria Salas was second place with 1,198 and Nonna von Sonn had 704 for third.
