Winter heat wave breaks records in Woodland Hills, Burbank

Share

As the Los Angeles region enjoyed a third straight day of summer-like weather Wednesday, Bob Hope Airport in Burbank hit a high of 93 degrees, breaking the old record of 85 set in 1951.

Woodland Hills set a record high temperature of 94 degrees, breaking the old record of 92 set in 2007.

The late-winter heat is being caused by a high pressure system aided by slight offshore winds that combine to warm inland areas, National Weather Service meteorologist Kathy Hoxsie told the L.A. Times.

The higher-than-normal temperatures are expected to last through Thursday before the high pressure system begins to break down and onshore breezes settle in to produce cooler temperatures, Hoxsie said.
