Teen dies after sparring at boxing club in Burbank

A 16-year-old boy died after sparring at Pullman’s Gym in Burbank Thursday evening.

The cause of death was not immediately known. The unidentified North Hollywood teen was brought to ProvidenceSt. Joseph Medical Center at about 6:45 p.m. after complaining of pain from “light sparring,” according to Burbank police.

While at the hospital, the teen suddenly lost consciousness. After attempts to revive him failed, he was pronounced dead at the hospital about an hour later, according to police.

Pullman’s Gym, located in the 4300 block of West Magnolia Boulevard, offers a range of teen and adult boxing classes on its website and touts itself as being equipped with “the best gear.”

Calls to the gym Friday morning went unanswered.

An investigation into the teen’s death by the Los Angeles County coroner was pending.
