Burbank Noon Rotary is historic event
The July 12 meeting of the Burbank Rotary Club was an exciting and memorable gathering indeed. For not only was it the inaugural meeting of new president Jonathan Taylor (who announced that he was newlywed), but the Invocation was given by his father, Darrell Taylor (president 1989-90), and his grandfather, Glenn Taylor (president 1984-85) led all in the Pledge of Allegiance. Jonathan represents the third generation of Taylor family members to serve as president of the Burbank Noon Rotary in Burbank. Founded in 1926, this is the first time in the club’s history this historic achievement has ever occurred, and such a moment will presumably never take place again.
The entire Taylor family is highly respected within our local Burbank community for their volunteerism and philanthropy. They are each a Paul Harris Fellow and remain dedicated to Rotary’s precept of “Service Above Self.”
Other new Rotary Officers for the 2011-2012 term are Mike Thomas, Vice President, Siranoush Tokatlian, Secretary, Marsha Floyd, Treasurer and Keith Sanneman, Immediate Past President.
At their July 17 meeting, Burbank Police detective Jeff Lamoureaux was awarded this year’s Rex Andrews Police Scholar award. Andrews was a highly respected chief of the Burbank Police Department beginning in the mid-1950s, and also a Rotarian. This award is given each year to a full-time, sworn officer of the Burbank Police Department who has completed at least six semester units (or the equivalent in quarter units) off college credit while maintaining at least a 3.0 grade point average.
Lamoureaux has been with the Burbank Police Department since 2002, and achieved the rank of detective last year. He completed his Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Woodbury University. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration. He attended John Muir Jr. High and Burbank High School. He and his wife Melissa, who was present at the ceremony, have two daughters, ages 5 and 7. The award consists of a certificate, a cash stipend of $1,000, and a perpetual plaque maintained at the Police Department.

Kiwanis Aktion Club to hold fashion show
The Aktion Club’s fundraising fashion show “The Fabulous ‘50s Retro Aktion” is almost here. The date is Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Burbank Masonic Temple, 406 Irving Dr., Burbank. Social hour starts at 11 a.m. and the luncheon will be served at noon. The proceeds will benefit the “Appearance Room” at the Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center. Dodie Stevens (of 1959’s “Pink Show Laces” fame) and her daughter will be entertaining also.
