Urban blight on Chandler Bikeway

Share

Recently there has been a noticeable increase in abandoned shopping carts here in Burbank, especially along the Chandler Bikeway. Abandoned carts are the start of urban blight. One cart leads to two, then three, and so on. It encourages other littering and dumping, lowering the quality of life for all. Lost carts increase the costs for local businesses. And it’s illegal.

There are at least two ways to combat this problem. First, of course, if you are someone who abandons a shopping cart, stop. Second, if you see an abandoned cart, call (800) 252-4613, leave a message and they will come pick it up. It’s a very easy way to keep Burbank blight-free.
