Burbank 10-11 softball steamrolls into Division finals

Burbank’s 10-11 All-Stars haven’t slowed down throughout the all-star season and it’s carried them to the doorstep of a Division championship.

Firing on all cylinders in every facet of the game, Burbank bested Adelanto on Sunday, 11-0, in four innings at Lions Park in Banning.

“We’re hitting, our pitching is there, our base running is great,” said Burbank All-Stars Manager Peter Orozco, whose team is now 4-0. “Everything’s running well for us.”

Burbank is now a win away from winning the Division championship and will play the final at 6 p.m. Tuesday with an if-necessary game to follow on Wednesday at the same time. Burbank will face either Los Angeles or Adelanto, with Orozco expecting a rematch against the latter, which already owns a win over Los Angeles.

“They were playing solid, but for some reason they came [out] flat today,” Orozco said.

Burbank wasted little time in jumping ahead with a three-spot in the first and then emphatically put the game away with an eight-run third inning.

“It was pretty close at the beginning, then we just busted the gates open,” Orozco said.

Memorie Munos got it all going with a two-run double in the first and later scored on an error.

In the circle, Sidnie Dabbadie notched the abbreviated shutout, allowing no walks in notching the victory. Sammy Fiorella had two hits as the offense got contributions from all over, including good games from Isabella Orozco, Mia Garcia, Erika Montoya, Savannah Benson, Dana Seavy and Kelly Villanueva.

Burbank literally had no competition in claiming the District 16 title unopposed and faced little resistance in the Section 2 Tournament, emerging from the two-team field with 17-2 and 18-0 wins over Tehachapi on July 8 and 9. Thus far in the four-team Division tournament – the final round of play in the state for the 10-11 age group – the locals have won two games by a combined 20-2 score beginning with a first-round win over Westchester Del Rey, 9-2.
