Burbank boys’ basketball pulls off CIF upset

Burbank 55, Loara 43: The Bulldogs pulled off an upset Friday, earning a win on the road against the No. 15 seed in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division I-A playoffs.

Burbank (16-12) limited the Saxons (20-8) to just four baskets and 15 points in the second half. The Bulldogs also converted 14 of 15 free-throw attempts.

Sarkis Karian led the way for Burbank, scoring 17 points.

Burbank will take on either No. 2 Santa Monica or Alhambra in a second-round game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Cypress 50, Burroughs 40: The Indians couldn’t gain the win on the road Friday in a first-round game of the CIF Southern Section Division I-A playoffs.

Lawrence White paced Burroughs (15-12) with 18 points.

Bellarmine-Jefferson 68, Bishop Diego 56: The Guards advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division V-AA playoffs with a win in the second round Friday.

Abid Oses had 26 points and 16 rebounds for the Guards.

Bell-Jeff (19-9) will play either No. 1 seed Village Christian or Loma Linda Academy in a 7 p.m. game Tuesday.
