Burbank, Burroughs boys’ soccer net league wins

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 2, Glendale 1: The Indians remained in first place in the Pacific League with a victory Friday on the road.

Noberto Alcantar scored two second-half goals to lead the Indians (10-5-2, 7-2).

Burbank 3, Arcadia 2: The Bulldogs kept themselves in the playoff mix with a Pacific League win Friday on the road.

However, Burbank (3-4-2 in league) had to score three straight goals after spotting the Apaches two goals in the first nine minutes of the game.

Andre Negrette scored two goals and Dennis Palacio came up with the game-winner with 12 minutes remaining. Christian Garcia had two assists.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 2, Glendale 1: The Indians were able to come away with the Pacific League win Friday at Memorial Field.

Tatiana Rizzotti had both of the goals for Burroughs (10-11-1, 7-2).

Providence 1, Glendale Adventist Academy 1: The Pioneers played to a stalemate Thursday in a Liberty League match at the Glendale Sports Complex.

Karni Boghokian scored the only goal for Providence in the first half.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 49, Holy Martyrs 16: The Pioneers received 11 points — including three three-pointers — from freshman Fabi Jimenez in the Liberty League victory Thursday on the road.

The win improved defending league champion Providence to 13-8, 3-0 in league.

Katia Dabbaghian added eight points and Bea Benedicto had eight points and seven rebounds.

A fine defensive effort by the Pioneers early on allowed them to take a 14-2 advantage after the first quarter. Providence increased its lead to 30-8 at the half.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Burbank 51, Arcadia 47: The Bulldogs survived another close game by beating Arcadia Friday at home.

The win improved Burbank to 13-9, 5-4.

Adam Pasco came off the bench to score 14 for the Bulldogs.

Bellarmine-Jefferson 70, Salesian 56: The Guards improved to 12-10, 3-2 with the Santa Fe League win Friday at home.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Burbank 8, Morro Bay 3: Goalkeeper Jasmine Ellman had 13 saves Friday in leading the Bulldogs to a win in the opening round of the Oxnard Tournament.

Lala Herpetian had three goals and Julianna Vitigliano added two for Burbank (9-8), which held Morro Bay scoreless fro the final nine minutes.

Oxnard 14, Burbank 5: The Bulldogs lost Friday in the second round of the Oxnard Tournament.

Crescenta Valley 21, Burbank 4: Playing without team leader Abby Glaessner due to illness, the Bulldogs fell Thursday afternoon in a Pacific League match against the Falcons, who are ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division V.

Seika Ha had two goals, an assist and a steal, while Ranah Elzait and Julianna Vitigliano also scored goals and Lala Herpetian had three steals.
