Burbank police investigating rash of weekend car thefts

Police are investigating a rash of thefts over the weekend, in which electronics, wallets and purses were stolen from 20 unlocked vehicles on the west end of Burbank.

Among the items stolen were purses, wallets, coins, GPS devices and iPods, according to Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

Surveillance footage captured two suspects in one of the reported thefts that occurred in the 1400 block of Pass Avenue. One suspect was described as Latino, heavyset, wearing a dark T-shirt and between 20 and 25 years old. The second was described as Latino, between 19 and 25 years old, with brown hair.

The footage showed them heading southbound on Pass Avenue at 6:20 a.m. Sunday morning.

“We’re looking into the possibility that these two were involved in some or all of the thefts due to the similar nature,” Ryburn said.

Ryburn urged residents to lock their car doors and hide their valuables from plain sight.

Meanwhile, three car burglaries were reported Saturday night, all in which the thieves gained entry by smashing windows. The three burglaries reportedly occurred in the 700 block of Cypress Avenue, 1800 block of Rose Street and 200 block of West Verdugo Avenue, respectively.
