A 59-year-old man who broke into his ex-girlfriend’s Canyon Country home roughly two weeks ago and later fatally shot himself was identified as a Burbank resident, authorities said.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 26000 block of Iron Canyon Road on Jan. 4 when the resident had come home after being out of town and noticed that someone had broken into her residence, according to Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter.

While deputies were on scene, they heard a single gunshot, and later found the man – identified by coroner’s officials as David Ferris – dead in the bedroom, said Det. Wayne Holston of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Coroner’s officials ruled his death a suicide.

The man once lived at the residence, Holston said. It’s unclear exactly when the break-in occurred.
