Crews repair water main break, prompting street closures in Burbank

Utility crews were working Monday to repair a water main break that caused flooding on North Lake Street, officials said, warning motorists to avoid the area.

An underground water pipe burst on North Lake Street, just north of West Chestnut Street, early Sunday morning, causing water to run into the roadway, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

Utility officials determined that the base of the road was “sufficiently stabilized with enough concrete that a sinkhole was not possible,” Ryburn said.

Authorities expect North Lake Street to be closed from West Chestnut Street to West Burbank Boulevard through 6 p.m. Monday while crews repair the water main line and surrounding street concrete.
