Lanes closures expected on Golden State (5) Freeway during construction

Transportation officials are warning motorists about a number of lane closures this week that are part of the $355 million Empire interchange construction project in Burbank.

From Wednesday to Friday, up to two lanes of the Golden State (5) Freeway will be closed in both directions between Olive Avenue and Hollywood Way from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., according to the California Department of Transportation.

During those same times, the Buena Vista street onramp and offramp on the northbound 5 freeway will be closed.

Caltrans asked motorists to be “attentive to closures, slow for the cone zone, and move over one lane where possible” for the safety of construction crews and other drivers.

The project includes adding carpool lanes between Magnolia Boulevard and Buena Vista Street on the Golden State (5) freeway, constructing a new interchange at Empire Avenue, reconstructing the Burbank Boulevard over-crossing and other improvements officials say will enhance safety and reduce traffic congestion.
