Marco Zappia, a 50-year Burbank resident and winner of two Emmy awards for his post-production editing work, passed away Dec. 22 in Ventura surrounded by family. He was 76.

According to his son, Robert, Marco Zappia helped produce shows at various entertainment studios, most notably the Walt Disney Co., where he edited such hits as “Home Improvement” and “Boy Meets World.”

The son of Italian immigrants, Marco Zappia earned his first Emmy in 1971 for “Hee Haw.”

He was a longtime member of the Directors Guild of America, the Motion Picture Editors Guild, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Most recently, Zappia published his memoir, “Smartest Guy in the Room,” a reflection of his life and career in the entertainment industry.

Marco Zappia’s formula for such a long and successful career, his son wrote in an email, could best be summed up in his dad’s own words, “A good editor must have a delicate balance between technical know-how, inventiveness, creative ability and social grace. If you think you’re the smartest guy in the room, keep it to yourself and check your ego at the door.”

Besides his son, Marco Zappia is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carole Ann, daughter, Roxanne, and six grandchildren.

The family said there will be no funeral or memorial services. Condolences may be sent to Carole Ann Zappia, 2771 Bayshore Ave., Unit A, Ventura CA 93001.
