Man arrested for allegedly tormenting, torturing Chihuahua
A 49-year-old Burbank man was arrested Wednesday night after witnesses reportedly saw him choking a Chihuahua and slamming it against the concrete, police said.
Police responded to Valley Park at 1625 N. Valley St. in Burbank just after 9 p.m. regarding reports of possible animal abuse, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.
One witness reportedly told police that the man, identified as Paul Warner, was holding the dog by the neck and yelling at it, and another said he slammed the dog against the concrete multiple times, Ryburn said.
Police said it appeared as though the dog was being dragged since its leg was caught in the leash, and that the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, Ryburn said.
Police did not notice any visible injuries on the dog, which seemed to be breathing fine, Ryburn said.
Warner was arrested on suspicion of tormenting and torturing the dog, which reportedly belonged to his sister, and being drunk in public, Ryburn said.
The dog was reportedly taken to the Burbank Animal Shelter.
