The Burbank Neighborhood Leadership program is seeking applicants for its latest five-month course, which teaches residents leadership skills and introduces them to city departments, local nonprofits and local businesses.

Participants will be expected to attend 10 Saturday classes from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., beginning Jan. 10 and running through May.

The program, funded by the city of Burbank, is a partnership with Burbank’s Park, Recreation and Community Services Department, the Burbank Unified school district and Leadership Burbank.

The course will be capped off with a community project planned and executed by the participants. Since 2009, leadership classes have raised funds and made improvements for various community organizations, such as the Burbank Adult School and BCR “a place to grow,” according to Paul Paolone, recreation coordinator with the parks department.

The deadline to apply for the free program is 5 p.m. on Oct. 31. Applications are available at local libraries and recreation centers or by emailing Paolone at ppaolone@burbankca.gov.

All completed applications can be turned in via Paolone’s email address or in person or by mail to Robert Ovrom Community Center, attn. Paul Paolone, 601 S. San Fernando Blvd., Burbank CA 91502

For more information, call Paolone at (818) 238-5435.
