On the Town: Hospital salutes the nation during fundraiser

In celebration of its 70th year of service, the Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center Guild presented its annual spring luncheon and fashion show fundraiser under the patriotic theme “Star Spangled Spring — A Salute to America” at the Sheraton Universal Hotel this past Saturday.

Staged under the leadership of guild President Ollie Vick and the event’s chairwoman and director Donna Mahoney, more than 400 attendees joined guild members to assist them in reaching their pledge of $500,000 to support the medical center’s Cusumano Family Outpatient Neuroscience Center.

Welcomed by Julie Sprengel, who serves as the chief executive at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, and Burbank City Councilman Bob Frutos, the afternoon’s gathering was entertained by ABC7 entertainment guru George Pennacchio, who emceed the festivities and was accompanied by his wife, fashion designer Erin Pennacchio.

The day’s main event, a fashion show produced by Carin Holmenas, was highlighted by the inclusion of medical center physicians Dr. Nick Testa, Dr. Raul Mena, Dr. David Sato, Dr. Robert Feinfield, Dr. Eric Feit, Dr. Stephan Yacoubian, Dr. Mark Mikhael and administrative staff including Omar Duenas, Michael Mayne and Terry Walker.

Among those who made last week’s event a success were members of the guild’s executive board and board of directors including Terry Campbell, Sharon Reid, Kathleen Marsden, Patricia Cimo, Pamela Shriftman, Maria Blake, Jackie VanBeveren, Carol Murphy, Patricia Heaton, Lori Riela, Marian Enos, Jill Allen, Claire Loughlin, Vicki Smith, Vicki Jackson and Linda Hawkins.

Others who also served in significant roles were Lyne Alburn, Dee Call, Lucy Brown and Grace Mylroie Patz, who will be celebrating her 103rd birthday this year, as well as the event’s co-director Barbara O’Kane.

Since the guild’s establishment in 1946, the organization has raised more than $7 million to benefit Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center.
