Verdugo pool to close for new roof

The Verdugo aquatic facility and recreation center will be closed for five weeks, and programming will be relocated while crews install a new roof on the 66-year-old building starting next Tuesday, officials said.

The Verdugo pool, along with the Verdugo recreation center and the tennis court closest to the center, will be closed through Oct. 6 for safety concerns and to give workers full access to the site, according to city spokesman Drew Sugars.

Aquatics programming will be moved to the McCambridge Park Pool, which will be open for lap swimming all week and recreational swimming on the weekends.

Meanwhile, fall recreation classes will be moved to the Verdugo Lower Assembly Building, the Log Cabin and the Olive Recreation Center.

Once the $140,000 project is completed, the Verdugo pool will be open year-round and the McCambridge pool will close for the year.

Verdugo Aquatic Facility Family Night, which had been slated for Sept. 27, will be canceled. On-site registration will also be closed at the recreation center during the five-week project.

The Verdugo Park parking lot and adjacent streets will continue to be available for parking.

For more information about the closure, call the Verdugo Recreation Center (818) 238-5390 or the Verdugo Aquatics Facility at (818) 238-5391.
