Motorist arrested after reportedly hitting pedestrian with car, then beating him

A 38-year-old motorist was arrested after he struck with his car, and later beat, a pedestrian who had yelled at him moments earlier after dodging a near-collision, authorities said.

The 23-year-old man was crossing the street alone at Victory Boulevard and Parish Place on Saturday around 4:30 p.m., when the motorist — identified as Andres Barajas of North Hollywood — almost hit him, said Burbank Police Lt. Eddie Ruiz.

That prompted the pedestrian to raise his arms and yell, “What’s your problem?” at the driver, who allegedly then made a U-turn and struck the man with his car.

Barajas subsequently got out of his car and allegedly began punching and kicking the pedestrian, who was on the ground. The victim sustained abrasions on his legs and elbows, as well as scratches on his face, but did not need medical attention, Ruiz said.

Barajas then allegedly threw the victim’s recently purchased items into a parked car, breaking the vehicle’s window, and fled the scene, Ruiz said.

Police were able to identify Barajas, who was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

He was released after posting $30,000 bail, jail records show.
