Roundup: Burroughs softball falls in league to Arcadia
SOFTBALL
Arcadia 10, Burroughs 6 (10 innings): The Indians dropped their first Pacific League game of the season in an extra-inning loss Tuesday at Olive Park.
Burroughs (12-4-1, 4-1 in league) — ranked No. 8 in CIF Southern Section Division III — scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extras. Down in the eighth, 6-4, the Indians pushed across two runs to stay alive.
The Indians had 16 hits, but also committed five errors.
Michelle Santiago was four for six with two doubles and four runs scored and Kaitlin Okimoto was two for five with a double and three RBI.
Burbank 11, Hoover 1 (five innings): The Bulldogs remained unbeaten in the Pacific League with the win Tuesday at McCambridge Park in a game that was called in the fifth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Bridgette Pisa was four for four with a triple and three runs batted in for Burbank (14-3, 5-0), which is ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division III. Teammate Jazmin Orozco was two for three with two RBI.
Pitchers Caitlyn Brooks (six strikeouts) and Hanna Moulton combined on a two-hitter. The Bulldogs are the defending Pacific League champions.
Burbank 4, El Segundo 2: The Bulldogs hammered out 11 hits Saturday to earn the win on the road to complete a sweep of the Eagles in a nonleague doubleheader.
Burbank (13-3), ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division III, scored two runs in the top of the first inning and tacked on one run in the fifth and seventh innings.
Pitcher Caitlin Brooks went the distance, striking out 12 and scattering six hits while walking one.
Brooks also did a solid job at the plate as well, going three for four with a double and one run batted in. Teammate Bridgette Pisa was three for four with an RBI and Julia Duarte was two for three with a triple and two RBI.
Burbank 2, El Segundo 0: Pitcher Caitlin Brooks hurled a two-hitter Saturday to help the Bulldogs defeat the host Eagles in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader.
Brooks struck out nine and only walked one in picking up the win.
Isabele Frias was two for four with a run batted in and Jazmin Orozco drove in the other Burbank run.
Providence 16, St. Monica Academy 6 (six innings): After the first two innings the Pioneers settled down to win the nonleague game Monday at Olive Park.
The game was called in the sixth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Providence (5-4) gave up three runs each in the first and second innings.
Fabi Jimenez was two for four with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in, Rachel Camonayan was two for three with five runs scored and Christy Hoffman was three for five with a home run, three runs scored and four RBI for the Pioneers.
BASEBALL
Hoover 5, Burbank 4: The Bulldogs, the defending co-league champions, dropped to 4-11-1, 1-5 in the Pacific League with the loss Tuesday on the road.
Buckley 4, Providence 2 (eight innings): The Pioneers (7-5, 2-3) fell Tuesday in a Liberty League game on the road.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Crescenta Valley 13, Burroughs 5: Indians singles player Sawyer Patterson swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, in the Pacific League loss Tuesday on the road.
TRACK AND FIELD
Burroughs in Tiger Invitational: The Indians had some solid marks in the event Thursday at South Pasadena High.
In the boys’ varsity 110-meter hurdles, Corwin Scherer was 10th in 16.18 seconds. In the Rising Stars boys’ 110 hurdles, Niko Guerrero was first in 16.85. Guerrero also placed third in the Rising Stars boys’ 300 hurdles in 43.06.
