Two suspects arrested in Burbank home burglary
Two Los Angeles men were arrested after allegedly stealing two rifles and other items from a Burbank home Wednesday, and police are investigating their possible involvement in a recent string of daytime home burglaries.
The suspects, Terry Jones, 24, and Marc Smith, 21, allegedly entered a home in the 400 block of North Catalina Street through an unlocked side door Wednesday afternoon and made off with two rifles, purses, a checkbook and jewelry, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.
The incident occurred while the residents were gone for an hour and a half just before 2 p.m., Ryburn said.
While police were on the scene, a burglar-alarm call came in four blocks away in the 400 block of North Buena Vista Street.
Investigators in the area noticed a vehicle — a black Lexus — that matched the description of a car reportedly involved in a residential burglary last week.
Upon stopping the car, police reportedly saw the purses, two rifles and other property in the back seat, Ryburn said.
Both suspects in the car — Jones and Smith — were arrested on suspicion of burglary and are being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Ryburn urged residents to call the police if they see anything suspicious. He also said they should lock up their homes, noting that in the majority of recently reported residential burglaries, the suspects entered through unlocked doors or windows.
Police are trying to identify the items recovered from the Lexus to return them to their rightful owners. Anyone who was a victim of a recent home burglary is asked to call Burbank Police at (818) 238-3277.
