Man pleads not guilty in Warner Bros. crash

A New York man on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to crashing through a gate at Warner Bros. Studios on Friday afternoon with materials that could be used to make an explosive device.

Michael Rodriguez-Cintron, whose last name varies slightly in records from Burbank police, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and superior court, was arrested after he crashed his late-model Chevrolet Camaro through the wooden arm of Gate 5 and drove through the lot.

The 43-year-old, who police say is out of work, returned to the gate less than five minutes later. No one was hurt.

Security officials pulled him over outside the gate and called in Burbank police, who brought in a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s bomb squad to investigate the car for possible explosives.

Investigators discovered a duffle bag containing several bottles of flammable liquids and ignition sources that “could potentially be used to make a destructive device,” according to a notice issued by the Police Department. A replica of a firearm was also allegedly found inside the car.

The bomb squad determined that the bottles of lighter fluid, matches and a gun replica could have been used to make a destructive device, officials said.

Rodriguez-Cintron was booked on suspicion of possessing a destructive device and having flammable or combustible materials.

A motive for the trespassing incident was not immediately clear, Burbank Police Lt. John Dilibert said. But officials said it appeared to be intentional.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Warner Bros. representatives referred all requests for comment to Burbank police. No estimate on the amount of damage caused to the property was available Tuesday.

Rodriguez-Cintron has a preliminary hearing set for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 29 in a Los Angeles County Superior Courtroom in Burbank.
